WHAT WE DO.
-
Create community.
When we say, “You belong here,” we really mean it. Inspired by Jesus’s bold invitation of belonging to the woman at the well, The Way Back to Ourselves seeks to authentically embody this posture for all who engage with our community. So, join us and experience The Way Back to Ourselves difference.
-
Equip leaders.
There is a new Renaissance coming. The leaders of tomorrow will be artists, mystics, dreamers, and those who are willing to engage with the world in inventive and creative ways so they might herald truth, beauty, and goodness for all to hear. We want to play a role in raising up these leaders. Will you join us?
-
Make art.
We believe your life is an artform. We are all “created to create” as God’s imago dei. Whether you are a poet, painter, pastor, or philosopher, we are a home for you. With a myriad of resources and opportunities, we are here to take this bold and beautiful journey with you, as we answer the call and create art that beautifies the Kingdom.

Makoto Fujimura, Art and Faith: A Theology of Making
“In my experience, when we surrender all to the greatest Artist, that Artist fills us with the Spirit and makes us even more creative and aware of the greater reality all about us. By "giving up" our "art," we are, paradoxically, made into true artists of the Kingdom… Unless we become makers in the image of the Maker, we labor in vain. Whether we are plumbers, garbage collectors, taxi drivers, or CEOs, we are called by the Great Artist to co-create… to share in the ‘heavenly breaking in’ to the broken earth.”
Kimberly Phinney on founding The Way Back to Ourselves
“I founded The Way Back to Ourselves after my critical illness because I was searching for home and a deep sense of belonging. I was longing for wholeness and connection in a world that had gone loud, and I was looking for an authenticity and a beauty that our fast-paced modern world no longer offered. I wanted to find myself again—to go back to the start and uncover the soul God had fashioned complete in him so long ago. And I had a feeling you were looking for those things, too. What I could never imagine was the gorgeous creative community God would birth from my darkest hours.”
